Ad Watch: Joe Manchin Takes Aim – Literally – At Cap and Trade

October 11, 2010 11:41 AM

ABC’s Amy Walter and Z. Byron Wolf report:

Last week we had the “hicky” controversy and now this: Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin, who is running for Senate by running against President Obama, literally shoots at a copy of the cap and trade bill – with a gun. A real one.

The bill, meant to curb greenhouse gas emissions by capping the amount of carbon businesses can emit, is enormously unpopular in West Virginia, which relies on its coal production. The House  passed a cap and trade bill in 2009, but Democrats efforts were stalled in the Senate.

Manchin’s ad achieves a sort of symbolic trifecta of anti-Washington Democrat discontent. Manchin fires a gun, first of all, and touts his NRA endorsement. He refers to the landmark health reform law, which he once supported, as “Obamacare” and pledges to repeal the “bad” parts. And he desecrates the cap and trade bill, a priority for many of the environmentally conscious liberals in the party.

Hey Joe, did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe you're really a Republican? Many people are coming to this realization lately.
I voted Democrat most of my life before
I realized I was really conservative.
If you believe in Fiscal Responsibility,
Less Taxes, LESS GOVERNMENT, FreeMarket
system.....you're Conservative, you're
a Republican.
It took me awhile to separate the Real Issues, the Major issues, from what is really just fringe issues that aren't that important.

Now the desperate rats that have jumped the good ship Oblamer are turning in to Republicans. How desperate can a dimocrat get?

And this guy is railing against an ad depicting West Virginians as hicks? He's living proof. What a suck up to the coal industry that is poisoning the entire east half of the country.

That's a joke, right? He hasn't been providing citizens with jobs in good times or bad - West Virginians have been fleeing to Blue States like Maryland (where Pelosi was born and raised) to find work for decades. If WVA didn't have that safety valve, it's citizens would probably have lynched all its famously corrupt officials by now!

Cap and Trade: A bill that would force companies to develop new and inventive ideas to reduce pollution. what a terrible thing.
No, we need more pollution and less inventive ideas.
The only way to make more jobs in the USA is to pump out low cost pollution and keep the workers grinding away doing the same things every day.
Change is bad, staus quo is good.
What pollution doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Survival of the fittest.

Almost as good as Obamacare. Or the porkulus. Third world health care for the people, billions to the insurance companies, and the best health care money can buy for congress. Change you can believe in, right?

I'd have to see his history to see if he'd become progressive if it became convenient.

The bill, meant to curb greenhouse gas emissions by capping the amount of carbon businesses can emit, is enormously unpopular with those of us smart enough to think that CO2 just may not be the culprit.

"Professor Richard Lindzen of MIT took 20 years to collect hard scientific data as a meteorologist on Global Warmer's number one claim that as CO2 builds the radiation of Temperature out to space decreases causing a Global Warming. After 20 years of collecting the data the science is in and it proves that all the best guess graphs and science was 360 degrees off. The radiation increases with the higher CO2 levels and the 7 degree temp rise is barely 1 degree. The science of Global Warming a big to do about nothing." borrowed

Even if "my" NRA endorsed him, if he ever gets to Washington as a Democrat he will do what Democrats do. There's 100 reasons to elect someone to Washington and just because he meets the test on one position, there's nothing to indicate he will meet other conservative requirements. If he did, he'd leave the Democrat party.

Aww,,,how cute trying to act like someone who gives a damn. Supporting "Obamacare" and then not when it is politically expedient???
These are the people that need to go away from "public service".
As for Cap-N-Tax...you cannot "legislate" technology but can tax people and companies into oblivion.

For a Democrat to be Pro-Gun means he is also Pro- US Constitution is a rare but truley wanted find.

Watch our Joe, your fellow liberal democrats will call you a racist.
